Having a disciplined finish
helps you commit to the shot

In my coaching I always stress the importance of a good follow-through position; releasing and swinging the clubhead all the way to the finish is a good indication that you have made a positive and committed move through the ball, which is essential for solid striking. There is, however, one additional comment I would make: incorporating a ‘recoil’ that sees the arms and the club fall back to the position you see here can be an equally effective sign that you have completed your swing in balance and with good speed. Look around on the tour and you will see a number of players who prefer to finish this way, particularly players who swing with a brisk tempo – Nick Price being a very good example. Work on this type of finish on the practice tee and you will find it is habit forming, and that in itself can be a useful defence under pressure.
