ROBERT BAKER says...
Some 99% of amateurs swing from the outside – i.e. the right shoulder
pushes forward from the top of the backswing, forcing the club outside
the ball-totarget line and heading for the ball at too steep an angle.
You probably recognise the symptoms: when a player swings over the top,
he or she never gets any real extension in the arms, is usually ‘jammed
up’ at impact, and succeeds only in imparting a glancing blow
on the ball. Lots of effort, no reward.
The Inside Approach (originally a concept from Jack
Nicklaus) comes to the rescue as it teaches the club to come into the
ball with a lower and more sweeping type of motion and from the inside.
That enables you to throw the toe of the club past the heel –
critical if you want to stop slicing the ball – and thus improves
your clubhead speed and the release through impact. The aparatus itself
is covered in foam and totally indestructible, so any time you do happen
to clip it with the club, it won’t hurt you. What’s very
clever about this is that it’s not just encouraging you to swing
from the inside but lowand from the inside. |
