For me, this exercise offers you the quickest and easiest route to solid ball-striking.
The drill works for the simple reason that it isolates the most important element of the swing (i.e. hand action) and then teaches you to blend this naturally within the overall structure of your body motion.
At the same time, it helps to eliminate the destructive use of the upper arms and shoulders as a power source.
The key to this drill is that the hands and the arms move only a short distance, while the clubhead traces a much wider arc. You are combining two gears: the body turn is a first gear that creates structure, the hand/wrist action is the vital second gear that creates the burst of speed. Go for it, with a real sense of throwing the clubhead into the back of the ball as you unwind. Why do people associate wristiness with inaccuracy?
Understand that this is the essence of what the hands do in the full swing. This drill will hone and develop the action.

Half-swing drill

As you prepare to move, fix in your mind the image of turning and swinging about that spine angle

As the wrists hinge and the club swings up, the shaft (from this angle) should be seen to bisect the right shoulder

While energy is being generated by the ‘core’ of the body, it is the release of the hands and arms that accelerates the clubhead

Symmetry in the half - swing is complete as the clubshaft bisects the left shoulder
